The Chief of the Defence Staff has addressed the nation following a sharp escalation in security concerns, including the raising of the UK’s terrorism threat level to critical.
During the interview, he confirmed that military forces have been placed on heightened readiness as a precaution, stressing that the move is designed to ensure rapid response capability should the situation worsen. He reassured the public that the deployment of troops across key locations is purely a defensive measure aimed at supporting national security and assisting police where necessary.
Addressing ongoing international developments, the Chief highlighted the UK’s continued cooperation with allied nations, noting that operations such as the current Middle East deployment are focused on maintaining regional stability and protecting British interests abroad.
When questioned about public concern, he emphasised that while the situation is serious, there is no need for panic. Instead, he urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity, reinforcing that public awareness plays a key role in national security.
He also confirmed that intelligence agencies are working closely with the armed forces, describing the response as a “coordinated national effort” to counter potential threats both domestically and internationally.
The Chief concluded by assuring the public that the UK remains fully prepared to respond to any escalation, with forces ready to act if required.
